At this point in my great wisconsin park adventure, I have explored and documented around one third of my destinations. I, of course, intended to blog about each adventure in a timely and organized manner, but in that regard have fallen quite short on my promise. Over the next week I will do my best to update to a current point in the project!

With some help from the pastel master himself (Degas), I took 1st place in the "Professional Category" in the 3rd Annual "Chalk It Up!" Street Painting Competition. Looking forward to next year!

on the road again...

I spent last weekend in SW Wisconsin traipsing through new parks for my State Park Plein Air Project (SPPAP). I've heard the term "God's Country" used so many times, but if you were referring to any place other than the southwestern corner of Wisconsin, you were sadly mistaken. The landscape is lush and the hills are grand and never ending. There are even "happy" cows and horses roaming the hillsides. I did some hiking. I did some painting. I serendipitously met a wonderful couple at Blue Mound State Park who were documenting the Best Hiking Trails in Wisconsin to be published this year. This was definitely the most rewarding weekend park trip I have had thus far.

After almost TWO years away from this blog, I have returned! Some things have changed. Some are the same. First and foremost…. I BUILT MY WEBSITE! Yay! Being the technologically-challenged individual that I am, building and maintaining a site has been an entertaining experience (mostly for the witnesses of my ongoing frustration). Through all of my meltdowns yelling at my screen, copying and pasting codes of complete gibberish, and empty threats of tossing my laptop over the edge of a bridge, I finally completed the site in late 2010! You can view my work at www.juliejilek.com. Feel free to add your name and email address to the mailing list under the "Contact" tab for ongoing updates and news. I am currently working to have a Facebook Fan Page, Etsy Store, and an exciting Summer State Park Project site that I expect to have up and running within the next week or two. So, until next time (and I promise it will be before June 2013), I leave you with an image of a painting, a wedding gift for my BFF, that was finally shipped off last week (yes, the best friend that I posted about TWO years ago). Ay, yai yai.

About a month ago I had the opportunity to work for the Target Corporate Conference drawing a 10'x10' drawing in about 4 hours time. It was a challenge being the largest piece I had tackled--not to mention the strict time limit-- but I enjoy working under pressure.
